EssayCoach AI is designed for young writers. We take the privacy of children seriously and comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the Privacy (Enhancing Online Safety for Children) principles, and we follow COPPA guidelines for users under 13. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

2. Data We Collect

• Account info: Email address, nickname, year level, and role (student/parent/teacher).
• Essays: Content you write and submit for AI feedback or publish to the Arena.
• Usage data: Pages visited, features used, session duration — collected in aggregate.
• Authentication: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from Google.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and improve the writing coaching service.
• To power the Arena, leaderboard, and challenge features.
• To send important account notifications (not marketing emails).
• We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties.
• We do NOT use children's essays for AI training without explicit parental consent.

4. Children Under 13

If you are under 13, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to use EssayCoach. Parents can contact us at privacy@essaycoach.co to review, update, or delete their child's data at any time.

5. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted in Australia/US regions). We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, email us at privacy@essaycoach.co. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies

We use cookies only for authentication (keeping you logged in) and essential site functionality. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
